Little-Known Details About Printers

Date: 29/12/2022

Printing is more common in our lives than we give it credit for. But how much do we really know about the machine that makes it possible? The world of printing and printers is way more exciting than one would expect. We are a Packaging Printing Company in Oman and we are here to sort out all your printing needs as well as share with you a thing or two about our craft.

A Few Crazy Facts About Printers that You Probably Didn’t Know

  • Fuser rollers can get up to 401 °F. They are essentially two heated rollers that can melt the toner powder onto the paper. Yes, they can get extremely hot, but the paper moves pretty quickly so that it doesn’t get burned.

  • The toner doesn’t require a lot of heat to melt. Although the rollers get really hot, all you need to melt the toner is some warm water.

  • In order to make one printer cartridge, about a gallon of oil is required. Even though a gallon of oil is not used in a cartridge, if we consider the transportation and the manufacturing process, it equals about a gallon.

  • More energy is used by laser printers than computers. Yes, the printer might be smaller in size. But that doesn’t equate to use of lesser energy.

  • The smallest printer in the world is 2x2x11 inches. It is called PrintStik and is made by Planon. It weighs 1.5 pounds and is portable.

  • The largest printer in the world is almost 40 x 164 feet. It is called Infinitus and is made by Big Image Systems.

  • The fastest printers in the world can print about 150 pages per minute – and that too color prints. To give you a more accurate idea, most printers today print around 15 to 30 sheets per minute.

  • There are printers that can print edible food. It is predicted by experts that most people will have access to this technology once it is solidified. Every day things like jewelry, clothes, houses, and even artificial prosthetics can be printed in the future. Isn’t that cool?

  • There are too many ink cartridges polluting the planet today. If all the empty ink cartridges in a year were placed end-to-end, they would go around the earth thrice.

  • Black printer ink is one of the most expensive liquids in the world. It costs even more than oil and space shuttle fuel if you compare it by the gallon. Today, a gallon of printer ink costs around $2700.

These facts are for sure going to come in handy at your next trivia night. Although it is said that print is becoming less and less important, what we see is quite the contrary. Around 90% of adults in the US have read a magazine in the last six months. Close to 24 billion newspapers are published each year. Even the response rates for direct mail marketing is way higher than email marketing. Print is here to stay.
